Downtown Matchup: Downtown Laramie vs. Downtown Lincoln

Visit Downtown Laramie on Facebook

The #9 Nebraska Cornhuskers stroll into Laramie, Wyoming this weekend to take on the undefeated Wyoming Cowboys at War Memorial Stadium, the highest Division I football stadium at 7,215 feet above sea level. Husker buffs might recognize Laramie as the place where former Husker head coach Bob Devaney called home for five seasons at the University of Wyoming from 1957 to 1961 before coming to coach at Nebraska from 1962 to 1972.

While Laramie may only have an eighth of Lincoln’s total population, the city’s good-hearted folks and college town feel are reminiscent of our own. Outdoor enthusiasts will find that Laramie boasts a number of beautiful areas to hunt, fish and mountain bike, as well as places to ski, snowboard and snowmobile like the Laramie Range and Snowy Range.

Trey Sherwood, Executive Director of the Laramie Main Street Alliance, said it will be great having red-clad Husker fans in downtown Laramie to enjoy all the diverse establishments they have to offer.

“Laramie Main Street and the businesses located in historic downtown Laramie are excited to welcome Nebraska fans into our community this weekend. We look forward to sharing with you our Cowboy Culture and Western Style through our variety of unique restaurants, bars and shops. We hope you enjoy your time with us and come back again to experience why Laramie, Wyoming is home to the Spirit of the Bold West!”

For Husker fans that will be in downtown Laramie on Friday, there is a farmer’s market from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Grand Ave. between 1st and 3rd streets and then a street dance at 8:00 pm in preparation for the game between 3rd Street Bar and Tommy Jacks. Visit the Facebook Event Page for more details.

As we did the past few weeks with Fresno and Seattle, we continue to look at the cities of our Husker competitors to see how Lincoln sizes up. Below is a comparison of the city of Lincoln and the city of Laramie and their respective downtowns.
