“Like” Grand Manse Art Gallery
Looking for a little atmosphere with your art? The Grand Manse Gallery would be the perfect place for you, if you appreciate a side of architecture and history with your gallery experience. The Grand Manse Gallery debuted on August 1, 2010 and is taking advantage of both the rich history and architecture of its surroundings.
Mary Stoner, who serves as the director of the gallery, had previously been using a space in the Parrish Studios but her lease was up and she was open to different options. Stoner was approached about the space available in the Grand Manse and things just seemed to fall into place from there.
A team of volunteers came together to brain storm and make the best use of their space available in the Grand Manse Gallery, and connect to different artists. They painted and covered some windows creating a neutral space for art to be displayed. Today, the team collaborates to decide whose work will be displayed as the featured show each month.
“It is about giving people a place to display their work, and we get the opportunity to work with many different artists,” said Stoner.
The Grand Manse Gallery can comfortably fit 20 plus pieces depending on size. Each show last for one month, an opening is hosted at the beginning of the month in conjunction with First Friday. All art displayed at the gallery is for sale.
First Friday is hosted each month by Downtown Lincoln Art Galleries. Each gallery has the freedom to host whatever kind of opening they feel suits the art they are displaying that month. Those who attend First Friday have an opportunity to check out many of the Downtown galleries conveniently in the same night.
While art is the main feature inside the Grand Manse Gallery, Stoner also does custom framing from the gallery. She described the relationship as a gallery that happens to have framing services. There are opportunities for consultations to help with a home or office project.
