SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN CONTINUES IN DECEMBER at Tada Theatre

“Like” Tada Theatre

Having played to sold-out houses in November the holiday production of Smoke On The Mountain will continue at The TADA Theatre December 2-5 / 9-12.
Lincoln audiences have marveled at this show that includes wonderful music, a great deal of heart and a talented cast that not only sings and acts in the show but plays all the instruments as well.

Smoke On The Mountain is set in 1938 as the congregation of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, deep in the mountains of North Carolina, gets ready for a special treat! The head of the church, Reverend Oglethorpe, has invited the somewhat colorful Sanders Family, a singing gospel group, to get the congregation’s spirits moving! Through the tales the Sanders family shares with the members of the church and their rather unique look on life through scripture and song, the congregation soon discovers more than they thought they ever would about their guests including the breaking down of their tour bus to uncle Stanley’s recent release from prison. The Sanders stay true to their beliefs and soon the audience (who become the members of the congregation) start tapping their feet and singing along as they join in the fun. Mix the style of a Broadway musical with the heart and the quirkiness of A Prairie Home Companion, drop in some tunes heard in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and you have the ingredients for this wonderful show!

Smoke on the Mountain features an all-star cast lead by veteran actor Cork Ramer as Burl, the father of the Sanders family. Playing opposite Ramer is Cris Rook as his wife Vera. The rest of the company includes Curtis Moeller and Jaci Manning as the twins, Dennis and Denise, Beth King as June, the sister who attempts to sign all the songs sung by the family, and Patrick Runyan as Uncle Stanley. Rounding out the cast as Reverend Oglethorpe is William Maltas.

The production is directed by Robert D. Rook, musical direction by Cris Rook, technical direction and scenic design by Dustin Witte, costumes by Megan Whitaker, lighting by Troy Lewellen and stage management by Bailey West.
