We live in a fascinating age of progress and scientific discovery. Technology offers us better and faster ways to communicate and share information with one another all across the planet. Yet with all its advancement, we believe nothing will provide a better channel for meeting our deepest needs of communication like the timeless practice of sharing simple food and drink. It is our desire to prepare everything we serve as simply and as skillfully as possible. We create all menu items in our open kitchen and bakery every day from scratch. We also use local ingredients whenever possible. We’ll set the table. You bring the conversation.

Kevin and Karen both felt the need for a change, but the only idea that kept coming back to them was the restaurant.  As the years passed, the idea stayed alive and instead of fading, became more persistent. It eventually came to the point where they could do nothing else but take it very seriously.  There were many points of influence and persuasion, but one of the strongest was the fear of regret for not trying.  Would it be better to try and fail than to never make the attempt at all?  It was a desire to live by the code, “I’m glad I did” instead of, “I wish I had” that served as the final impetus to take the risk. In May of 2005, Kevin and Karen, with the help from two college friends, started down the long road of planning, designing and opening a restaurant from scratch.  It would take 27 months before the doors were open to their first customers.  Nothing is born without struggle, and theirs included the search for the right location, dealing with bank rejections, construction delays, and mounting debts from no income.  The hard work eventually paid off and bread&cup opened on August 06, 2007. -Via Bread & Cup’s website

MAGGIE’S L.O.V.E (Local Organic Vegetarian Eatery) We are committed to supporting sustainable agriculture. Eat well. Live well. Be well.

Maggie’s passion for food began long before food network made cooking sexy… it began when Julia Child was gettin’ saucy on PBS.  After spending time in Arizona working at a natural foods coop and traveling the seasonal food mecca of California, Maggie returned home to start Lincoln’s first and only vegetarian cafe. Her passion for great food is not restricted to the kitchen as she is active in influencing and fighting for sustainable principles and policies that guide the agricultural industry. Maggie is one of the founding members of Slowfood Nebraska and a member of Buy Fresh Buy Local Nebraska. She has also been on the board of directors for Open Harvest Natural Foods Cooperative Grocery for nearly a decade. In November 2007, Maggie co-wrote “Dueling Chefs: A Vegetarian and Meat Lover Debate the Plate,” which is now in its second printing.  When she’s not cutting and dicing, she’s sowing and harvesting her own garden. -Via Maggie’s website
