Breakfast in Downtown Lincoln

We live in a fascinating age of progress and scientific discovery. Technology offers us better and faster ways to communicate and share information with one another all across the planet. Yet with all its advancement, we believe nothing will provide a better channel for meeting our deepest needs of communication like the timeless practice of sharing simple food and drink. It is our desire to prepare everything we serve as simply and as skillfully as possible. We create all menu items in our open kitchen and bakery every day from scratch. We also use local ingredients whenever possible. We’ll set the table. You bring the conversation.

Kevin and Karen both felt the need for a change, but the only idea that kept coming back to them was the restaurant.  As the years passed, the idea stayed alive and instead of fading, became more persistent. It eventually came to the point where they could do nothing else but take it very seriously.  There were many points of influence and persuasion, but one of the strongest was the fear of regret for not trying.  Would it be better to try and fail than to never make the attempt at all?  It was a desire to live by the code, “I’m glad I did” instead of, “I wish I had” that served as the final impetus to take the risk. In May of 2005, Kevin and Karen, with the help from two college friends, started down the long road of planning, designing and opening a restaurant from scratch.  It would take 27 months before the doors were open to their first customers.  Nothing is born without struggle, and theirs included the search for the right location, dealing with bank rejections, construction delays, and mounting debts from no income.  The hard work eventually paid off and bread&cup opened on August 06, 2007. -Via Bread & Cup’s website

While it may sound like sports fan sacrilege for us to say, our chef-created menu makes Brewsky’s a great place to eat - even if you don’t care about sports. Take a look. You’ll discover items on a Brewsky’s menu that are more than a step above standard fare. In fact, there’s truly something for everyone on our menu. While Brewsky’s menu may not bring peace between coaches and game officials, it could very well end the age-old debate between sports bar and gourmet American cuisine. And it’s only at Brewsky’s. -Via Brewsky’s website

Q&A With Brix & Stone

We are creating a destination that can demand the respect and love of being called a home away from home. A restaurant with a heart, your own Brix & Stone. What is a Gastropub you may ask…A British term for a public house that specializes in serving high-quality food and drink. Gastronomy is the science of food, collaborated with the word pub (bar) which gave birth to a new style of restaurants in Europe. This new trend is now sweeping across the United States, and we are proud to be a part of it. -Via Brix & Stone’s Facebook page

Lincoln, NE is home to the fourth and most recent Buzzard Billy’s. It opened May 16, 2000. This restaurant sits in the center of the Historic Haymarket section at the West edge of downtown. This location is housed in the first floor of the old H.P. Lau commercial grocery building built in 1906. It, like the Des Moines store, also has the original wood beams exposed throughout. Buzzard Billy’s Lincoln location is convenient to the Embassy Suites and Holiday Inn Hotels. A Farmer’s Market is held one block away each Saturday morning from the first weekend in May to the last weekend in October. The restaurant and bar is within convenient walking distance to Memorial Stadium, home of the Nebraska Husker Football team. It also is just down the street from Haymarket park, home of the newly formed Lincoln Saltdogs. It will be home to the newly formed Lincoln Saltdogs minor league baseball team and to the top ranked University of Nebraska baseball and softball teams. The Lincoln location also has a large covered patio dining area that fronts 8th street. It is a great place to dine and people watch while enjoying the mild summer days and evenings.
